Easter roundup: Better late than never!

A few pictures from Easter, and an official request...

We didn't have any big Easter plans this year. In recent years we have hosted our families at our house, and I love doing that. But, this year it just seems like we're busier than ever, life feels a little hectic, and I just didn't have the time or energy to devote to planning anything. So, we planned to just keep it low key and relaxed. However, it dawned on me about a week or so before Easter that the kids weren't really going to have the opportunity to hunt eggs. Or be around other kiddos. So, at the last minute, we threw together a little neighborhood Easter egg hunt at the Pontiac park. We ended up with about 15 kids. And it was great! All the parents provided a dozen filled plastic eggs for each of their kids. We collected all of these eggs ahead of time, and a few of the dads got together and hid them early Saturday morning. We even had a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny. The kids had a blast, and even though some of them are neighbors, they don't all get to play together very often. I see an annual Pontiac Easter Egg Hunt in our future...

Even though we didn't plan an official get-together, we did make the rounds to see all of the parents/grandparents over the weekend. And at the end of the weekend, after seeing all the grandparents, the "Nanny," the Easter bunny, etc., we were left with buckets of candy. Ridiculous amounts of candy. Since when did Easter become as sugary as Halloween? Let me explain how this works. The kids get to eat candy on Easter weekend because it's a special occasion. After that? We hide it, they forget about it, and Matt and I end up eating most of it. Call me a party pooper, but I'm putting in my official and public request now for candy-free Easter presents from all of the "Easter bunnies" next year. My waistline and my teeth would appreciate it. Please and thank you. :)

Adventures in Carpooling

I picked up the girls (Lola and Regan) from school one afternoon this week. We have a game we sometimes play where the girls help me "drive" by putting their hands out in front of them and holding onto an imaginary steering wheel and putting their feet on imaginary pedals. I tell them when to brake and when to give it gas and which way to turn the wheel. Anyway, we were cruising along, all three of us "driving," and we started talking about how we needed to slow down for curves, animals, other cars, and then Regan announces: "And if we see a police car, we have to hit the brakes and slow down!" I laughed, unsure whether she meant it's just good practice to slow down when we see a police officer, or that we should slow down so we don't get a speeding ticket. Either way, good idea, Regan.

While being the chauffeur for these two can sometimes be challenging (think two little girls bickering in the backseat over whose turn it is to sing "Let It Go" for the one-hundred-millionth time) it is certainly entertaining.
