Mizzou-FLOP-oly

Well, since the power has been on our hot game of Mizzouopoly isn't so hot anymore. The board is still sitting out with all the pieces in place - but it hasn't been touched since the lights have been on. Bummer. I really want to finish it! I've just about saved enough money to buy college credits for my high-end properties, all in an effort to bankrupt my husband. What fun! To be continued...

Lights on for now!

Our power came back on earlier this evening. Hallelujah! We are so lucky. So many others are still without this evening. The boat dock had it earlier; now it's out again. It's so strange. We took the opportunity to shower and clean the kitchen in a hurry, just in case it doesn't last... With all the melting, trees are going to be popping back upright and likely knocking out power again. These are a few pics I took yesterday and today. More soon!

Ice storm blues

We're still without power in Pontiac. Bummer. It has been out since 11 p.m. Tuesday. Matt and I are in Gainesville right now, where it seems power in town has been fully restored. I'm at my mom's office checking e-mails and updating our dock customers (see pontiaccove.blogspot.com). The docks are hanging in there, but a couple are sitting very low in the water. We're more worried about that than when we're getting our power back... although it will be nice to have a hot shower again. :) We're very lucky that we have a propane fire place, so we're definitely staying warm. Matt has figured out how to make coffee on the grill, sort of, so he's keeping his sanity for now. We cleaned out our fridge last night and put all the food in coolers on the deck. Our deep freeze in the garage is still solid, so that's good. Last night we played a few rounds of Go Fish, then started a serious game of Mizzouopoly (like Monopoly, only all about Mizzou!) So far I'm dominating the hot, high-end properties, while Matt has become a slum lord by buying up all the cheap ones... ha ha. He has more money than me right now, but not for long! It's to be continued this evening... I'll keep you posted. :) And I'll post more pictures of the ice storm soon.

Ice Storm

Here are a few photos I've taken so far. Conditions aren't too bad right now. Matt and I ventured out, and the roads really aren't that bad. The docks are holding up okay, although a couple of the older ones are sitting pretty low. The trees are in pretty sad shape. We have a couple big cedars in front and on the side of our house, and huge limbs are falling off of those every few minutes. It has actually gotten worse since I took these pictures earlier... I'll take more later. We're going to have a heck of a bonfire when this is all over. :(

Waiting out the Weather

The freezing rain has started to fall. We're under an ice storm warning this evening, through tomorrow. I'm doing my last load of laundry. Both tubs are full of water - just in case we lose power! We have plenty of water jugs for drinking and flashlights. I may sound crazy, but I'm just doing what the weatherman says to do! We're worried about the docks. Hopefully in the morning we'll be able to get down there to check on them... I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them - if I have Internet access!

Viva Terra

I'm in love with this catalog. Not sure where it came from, but it showed up in our mailbox a few weeks ago, addressed to Matt. I'm thinking it's affiliated with Sundance, another catalog I love, and one from which Matt has ordered a couple gifts for me in the past. Either way, it's soooo cool. It features home decor and is described as "eco living with style." This time of year I always want to change things around the house. If I could, I'd order just about everything from Viva Terra! Including the bed pictured above. Only problem is the stuff's a bit pricey. I told Matt I think we could build that bed... looks simple enough to me. :)

I can't decide if I like the HUGE picture of Matt and me at the top of the page. I want a picture there, but maybe not so big. I haven't figured out how to make it smaller. I don't really see blogs set up like this. Anyone have an opinion? Does it seem weird?

Fresh Fish Tacos

I wish I had a picture of this, but alas, I do not. Nonetheless, I still want to share this awesome recipe. Last Sunday we had fresh fish tacos for dinner. They were delish. Matt went fishing on Sunday with a couple guys, and between the three of them they had three keepers - kentuckys. Good stuff. He kept and cleaned all of them, and about two hours after they were pulled out of the lake they were sizzling in the skillet. I sauteed them in olive oil and a little butter (just a touch of butter for flavor). I seasoned them with garlic salt, black pepper, chalula (spicy), greek seasoning and lemon juice. As a side we cooked black beans and seasoned them with chopped tomatoes and green chilis (rotel). I also whipped up a quick, cool and creamy guacamole sauce using 1 avocado, 1/3 cup nonfat plain yogurt, lemon juice, salt and cayenne. So, here's how you eat 'em: Take a whole wheat soft tortilla (we use Mama Lupe's) and fill with fish, beans, low-fat feta, lettuce and the guac sauce. Or, Matt uses a cajun seafood sauce on his. Really, you could put anything you want in these! We've made them before and used brown rice in addition to black beans. They are just so good and fresh tasting. YUM!
